Lee & White Consultants contributes to the European Commission's Justice Department's Consultation on the Commission's comprehensive approach on personal data protection in the European Union.
On January 13th, 2011, Lee & White Consultants provided feedback on the proposals included in the European Commission's Communication to the European Parliament concerning changes to the current Data Protection Directive.
Some of the issues tackled in the feedback include:
- Including Name as a special category in the protection of sensitive data.
- Data Protection Authorities to be endowed with more active enforcement powers owing to lack of compliance with national data protection laws for obvious reasons.
- The cumbersome notification system must be tackled.
- The need for checks, supervision and accountability of Data Protection Authorities.
